Areas we cover
The British Embassy in Jakarta consists of several sections, each responsible for specific areas. Some sections provide public services such as providing general information about the UK, promoting Indonesia-UK trade opportunities and issuing visas.
Trade & Investment Section
The Trade & Investment, working as UK Trade & Investment, is the British Government network dedicated to building British business success overseas. Our role is to help British firms take advantage of business opportunities in Indonesia by providing support, information and advice throughout the exporting process.
Commercial officers can produce tailor-made reports providing specific market advice according to the customer’s requirements. We can also provide general advice to British business visitors and can help with publicity for successful British business achievements in Indonesia. Some of these services are chargeable.
Media & Communications Section
The Media & Communications Section (MCS) is responsible for promoting the UK and providing information about its activities with and links in Indonesia. This includes information about British Government policy and Embassy activities and forthcoming events, including UK Trade and Investment. MCS Section is also responsible for maintaining the Embassy’s Website and is the contact point for all media enquiries.
Consular & Visa Section
British Consular staff in Indonesia offer a number of fee-payable services, including the issuing of replacement or new passports, registration of births and deaths of British citizens in Indonesia, and certain notarial acts. We will also do everything we can to help British people in difficulty e.g. in the event of arrest, hospitalisation, theft or death. The Consular Section cannot pay legal, medical or any other bills, get people out of prison, give legal advice or intervene in court cases.
Management
The Management Section is responsible for all personnel and financial resources and provides support to all front line departments
DFID
The Development Section of the British Embassy is staffed by members of the Department for International Development (DFID).
DFID is committed to working with other major development partners to strengthen international support to Indonesian efforts to reduce poverty. Assistance in this financial year will be some £16 million. DFID is engaged in three broad areas: pro-poor policy development and budgetary management, governance (including conflict) and forestry.
Defence
The Defence Section seeks to foster strong bilateral relations with the armed forces of Indonesia (TNI) as a positive demonstration of the UK's commitment to security in the South East Asian region. In addition, the Defence Section seeks to assist with stability and good relations across South East Asia by providing opportunities for nations to work together and improve understanding.
Whilst this relationship is broad ranging in concept, the Defence Section places particular emphasis in helping the TNI improve its capacity to conduct Peace Support Operations and to assist with border security and maritime security issues.
Political/Economic Section
The Political and Economic Sections of the Embassy are responsible for following and reporting on the political and economic situation in Indonesia, strengthening ties between British and Indonesian organisations and Parliamentarians, and working with Government, NGOs and Civil Society Organisations to strengthen conflict resolution efforts.
